Q
Can I stand on the platform to fish?
We can not recommend that customers stand on the Cargo Outrigger platform. We do recommend applying a layer of EVA foam to the platform for comfort when sitting as well as to personalize your Cargo Outrigger.  Any EVA foam should work but we have used the SeaDek Small Embossed Sheet Material 18" x 38" as pictured below.
Q
What size oar locks fit in the Oar Towers?
The oar locks receive 5/8 inch diameter oar locks. Oar locks and oars not included. Select this link for our oar lock recommendation (pictured below). Select this link for our paddle recommendation.
Q
Why did you replace the Cooler Outrigger with the Cargo Outrigger?
We always said that the ideal product to provide storage and maintain increased boat stability from buoyancy and ballast would be a lockable dry box that was a bit smaller than the coolers for reduced drag and compact storage.  All paths in our search continued to led us back to the highly rated Yeti GoBox that is perfectly designed for overnight camping trips on the water. If a cooler is what you desire then you can easily drop a bag cooler into the GoBox for cold storage.
Q
Is this outrigger the best on the market for canoe camping?
There is no doubt. Extra stability, extra storage, extra seating room on your canoe and conversion to a camping table makes this product a must have for your canoe camping trip.
Q
Does the Cargo Outrigger make a canoe more stable?
If used properly, the Cargo Outrigger provides a significant amount of stability.  The outrigger provides stability first through weight distribution (like a tight rope walker carrying a pole).  The more weight in the Yeti® cargo boxes, the more stable your boat will be.  If the boat is tilted one way or the other the cargo boxes then provide buoyancy and greatly reduce the chance of a turn over.
Q
Does the outrigger come with the cargo boxes?
The Cargo Outrigger includes two (2) Yeti LoadOut® GoBox™ Gear Cases manufactured in the United States. Reviews for this cargo box can be seen here.
Q
Can I use my own cargo boxes?
Our frame is designed to fit the YETI LoadOut® GoBox™ Gear Case only. While we have three colors available, the cargo box is available in other colors at Yeti and other online retailers.
Q
What happens when a cargo box hits a rock?
The cargo boxes are designed to ride several inches out of the water and you are able to raise and lower the cargo boxes by leaning away or towards objects in the water.  Leaning, which generally happens naturally, allows you to ride the cargo box over the rocks or under branches.  In thousands of miles of on water testing we have yet to hit a rock and damage a an outrigger beyond use.
Q
Does the Cargo Outrigger create drag and slow you down?
Drag is generally not an issue.  When paddling in flat water the Yeti Cargo Boxes will not touch the water unless you lean your weight to one side or the other at which point its helpful to have the stability from buoyancy.
Q
How do the coolers attached to the outrigger?
The frame is designed for the cargo boxes to drop in and cinch tight with provided alligator buckle straps.
Q
Can the cargo boxes be raised or lowered?
Rising the cargo boxes can be achieved by placing a pool noodle or any type of elevator between the gunwale of the canoe and outrigger frame.
Q
Will the Cargo Outrigger frame attach to my canoe?
The outrigger will attach to any canoe. If you are in a smaller canoe, you can attach the outrigger closer to the front of the boat and anchor it back to the center with a couple cam straps so that it does not hinder the stroke of the paddler in the stern seat.
Q
How does the Cargo Outrigger frame attach to the boat?
We use  2500 lb ratchet straps that wrap under the boat. This has been a successful method for thousands of miles of testing and allows the frame to be attached to any canoe and many kayaks.
Q
Does the product break down for transport and storage?
Yes, the frame breaks down to approximately 42 inches x 24 inches x 4 inches.
Q
How much does the Cargo Outrigger frame weigh?
Shipping weight of the frame is 28lbs. Each empty cargo box adds about 11.8 pounds. Keep in mind that the more weight in the coolers the more stable your boat will be.
Q
Can the frame be extended while on the water?
The frame can be extended while on the water, however, you may find it easier to pull to the shoreline to make adjustments.
Q
Will a Cargo Outrigger frame attach to a raft/ducky?
Yes, the Cargo Outrigger should be compatible with any inflatable that is no wider than 54 inches.
Q
Where is the Cargo Outrigger manufactured?
